About Laszlo Bulatko — Founder, LaNiTex Hydro Garden

A Hungarian distribution business, now an Australian hydroponics brand
Laszlo Bulatko started LaNiTex Hydro Garden in December 2024 from his home on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. It's the second LaNiTex business he has built. The second time he has started one from zero.
Before moving to Australia in 2023, Laszlo spent 18 years in the European fishing tackle industry. He founded LaNiTex Kft in Hungary in 2005, together with his wife. By 2018 the business held 12% of the Hungarian market, employed 14 to 15 people across sales, warehouse, marketing, and administration, and turned over more than $3M USD a year.
LaNiTex Kft was the exclusive Hungarian distributor for Okuma, Mustad, Prologic, Savage Gear, Mad Cat, and Fladen.
In December 2018, Laszlo sold the business and inventory to Svendsen Sport A/S, the Danish parent company of several brands he had distributed for over a decade. He stayed on for another five years:
- Regional Manager for Hungary and Slovenia at Svendsen Sport (Jan 2019 – Feb 2022)
- National Sales Manager for Hungary at Pure Fishing (Feb 2022 – Jul 2023), after Pure Fishing acquired the Svendsen portfolio.
Moving to Australia
In mid-2023, Laszlo and his family relocated from Hungary to the Sunshine Coast. He spent the rest of 2023 and most of 2024 learning the Australian market, looking for a category where his distribution and brand-building experience could be useful here.
Hydroponics was the answer.
"I knew distribution. I knew brand-building. I needed a category in Australia where those skills mattered. Hydroponics was where the gap was widest."
Australian home growers face the same problem Laszlo had spent two decades solving for fishing customers: too many products, too much marketing, and not enough straight talk from someone who has actually used the gear.

Why hydroponics
"Fishing enthusiasts and home growers want the same thing. Honest advice and equipment that does what it says."
Laszlo brought a grow box home soon after arriving in Australia and started experimenting in his living room. The results spoke for themselves:
- Microgreens were ready in under a week
- Lettuce in 25 to 35 days
- Capsicum and herbs kept producing for the kitchen
Every product LaNiTex Hydro Garden sells went through Laszlo's own home before being added to the website. If a system did not grow what the marketing claimed, it did not get added to the range.

Earlier career: multinational finance foundations
Before LaNiTex Kft, Laszlo spent four years inside two multinational shared services centres in Hungary.
IBM Hungary International Shared Services Centre — Payment Clerk (Aug 2002 – Apr 2004). Processed vendor payments and reconciliations for IBM's European operations in SAP.
Diageo — Senior Accounts Payable Specialist (Apr 2004 – May 2006). Managed AP operations for the global FMCG company and worked with treasury teams.
The finance discipline he built in those years carried into running LaNiTex Kft. The business scaled profitably for 13 years, including through the 2009 financial crisis, without losing a single staff member to redundancy.
The Term-Grow education programme
LaNiTex Hydro Garden also runs the Term-Grow Enrolment Programme — a curriculum-aligned hydroponics programme for Queensland primary schools.
Grow boxes go into classrooms with lesson plans and teacher support, so students can grow real food and learn where it comes from.
Laszlo wants the next generation of Australians to grow up understanding food production, not just food consumption.
Brand heritage
LaNiTex has European trademark protection. The brand was registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office in 2019, after 13 years of brand-building in the European fishing tackle market.
The name is now also registered separately in Australia as "LaNiTex Hydro Garden" for the new business.
Outside the business
Laszlo holds a Financial Degree from Budapest Business School (Faculty of Finance and Accountancy, Salgótarján Campus). He speaks Hungarian as a native language and English at professional working level.
He plays chess in his spare time.
"Chess teaches you that the best move is rarely the most obvious one. Same with business."
He lives on the Sunshine Coast with his family.
