A self watering pot with a built-in grow light for plants

Grow one plant on your bench, and let it water itself. The LaNiTex Mini Indoor Grow Pot is a compact self watering pot for a single flower, leafy plant or herb. A built-in reservoir feeds the roots through a cotton wick, so you top up every few days instead of daily, with no soil and no gardening experience needed.

The LED runs an automatic 13-hour grow cycle for the plant, and it doubles as a desk or bedside lamp: after dark you can switch it to a reading, warm or night-light mode. It runs on USB-C and is made for indoor use.

You add your own seeds and nutrient from any Australian supplier, so there are no proprietary pods to keep buying and you're never locked into one brand. Backed by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 1-year warranty, shipped Australia-wide.

Supported by LaNiTex Australia on the Sunshine Coast.

LaNiTex Mini Indoor Grow Pot, a self watering pot with a built-in grow light on a desk

    Why you'll like it

    • Waters itself: top up every few days, not daily
    • One plant, zero fuss: a flower, leafy plant or herb
    • LED grow light for indoor plants with four modes: Planting, Reading, Warm and Night Light
    • Soil-free, so there is no mess and nothing to repot
    • Beginner-friendly: no soil, no pump, no experience

Made for desks, bedside tables and kitchen benches, first-time growers, and anyone after an easy plant-based gift.

    Using it as a lamp

Beyond the Planting cycle, the Mini has three lamp modes for everyday use. Reading is an eye-protection reading light you can comfortably read next to. Warm (Beauty mode) is a warm light. Night Light is a low, soft glow for the bedroom after dark. On a nightstand it doubles as a bedside lamp: a reading light before sleep, then a soft night light left glowing through the night.

Planting mode runs its own automatic cycle (13 hours of light, then 11 hours of rest over 24 hours), so switching to a lamp mode in the evening does not cost the plant its grow cycle. There is no pump: water moves by cotton wick, so it is silent on a bedside table, and it runs on USB-C.

    What's in the Box

Included: the grow pot with LED grow light and stand, a substrate cup, cotton grow swabs, a nursery (germination) cover, a measuring cup, tweezers, and a USB-C cable, a complete starter kit. This all-in-one hydroponic kit gives you everything you need to start growing.

You'll add (sold separately): your seeds and a hydroponic nutrient solution, both easy to source from any Australian garden or hydroponics supplier, so this grow kit is never locked to one brand.

How to plant, step by step

    1. Soak the substrate in clean water until it is fully absorbed.
    2. Twist the cup cover clockwise, lift out the substrate-cup module, and open the planting cup cover.
    3. Push a cotton wick up through the bottom of the substrate cup so about 0.5 cm sticks out.
    4. Place the soaked substrate into the cup against the wick, line the cup-cover slot up with the clamp point, and press until it clicks.
    5. Seat the substrate cup back into the pot.
    6. Pour about 500 mL of clean water into the inlet until the wick is fully soaked.
    7. Drop your seed into the planting hole and fit the nursery (germination) cover.
    8. Plug it in and tap the button to start Planting mode. In the early seedling stage, lower the light arm to sit about 5–8 cm above the plant; the indicator light comes on. Kept this close, it works as a grow light for seedlings.
    9. Once two leaves appear, remove the nursery cover and add 2.5 mL of nutrient A, then 2.5 mL of nutrient B, into the injection hole.
    10. When the plant has 4–6 leaves, keep the strongest seedling and remove the weaker ones. Raise the light arm as the plant grows.
    11. Check the water level every 3–5 days and top up, roughly 250 mL of water plus 2.5 mL each of nutrient A and B, until the end of the grow.

Keep it indoors, out of direct sun and away from heat sources, with a little airflow. The substrate and cotton wick are single-use, so refresh them between grows.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What can I grow in the Mini Indoor Grow Pot?

One plant at a time. It suits flowers such as sweet alyssum, viola (heartsease), gazania or a dwarf marigold, herbs like basil, mint and coriander, or a salad green such as lettuce or rocket. Keep it to plants that stay under about 40 cm. The pot is light, so a tall plant makes it top-heavy. The compact 146 x 178 x 345 mm body fits a desk, bedside table or kitchen bench, and it grows soil-free by feeding the roots through the water.

What are the LED lighting modes?

Four. Planting runs a 13-hour light, 11-hour rest cycle for growing. Reading is an eye-protection reading light, Warm (Beauty mode) is a warm light, and Night Light is a low, soft glow. Outside planting mode it works as a desk lamp.

Can you actually read next to it?

Yes. Reading mode is an eye-protection reading light, comfortable to read a book by.

Does the plant still grow if I use it as a lamp?

Yes. Planting mode runs its own 24-hour cycle, so switching to a lamp mode in the evening does not cost the plant its grow cycle.

    Is it noisy?

No. There is no pump, so there is no pump noise. The wick moves the water silently.

Does it work as a bedside lamp?

Yes. On a bedside table, Reading mode gives a comfortable reading light and Night Light mode leaves a soft night light for the bedroom. There's no pump, so it stays silent overnight.

How much electricity does it use per month?

It runs on 5V / 5W and uses about 1.9 to 2.1 kWh a month, so it costs very little to run on a typical home electricity plan.

    How does the self-watering work?

It's a wicking system. A cotton wick sits in the built-in reservoir and draws water and nutrients up to the roots, so the plant feeds itself between refills. There's no pump and no daily watering, so you just top up the reservoir every few days.

    Is it good for beginners?

Yes. It's made for a first try at indoor gardening: no soil, no pump to manage, and no experience needed. You add a seed and nutrient, top up the water every few days, and the LED runs its own day and night cycle. It's also a low-cost way to see if hydroponics suits you before stepping up to a larger system.

Is it suitable for a child's room?

No. It holds standing water and liquid plant nutrient (A and B), and the manual says to keep it out of reach of infants and young children. It is made for a desk, bench or bedside table in an adult space.

What kind of grow light is it, and can LED lights really grow plants?

Yes. It has a built-in LED grow light with four modes. Planting mode runs a 13-hour light, 11-hour rest cycle for growing one herb or leafy plant indoors. Reading, Warm and Night Light let it double as a desk lamp.

How does it compare to the larger LaNiTex systems?

It's the most compact and lowest-cost way into LaNiTex hydroponics, growing one plant. If you want more, the Desktop Grow Box grows 3 plants and the Grow Box – Smart Hydro Garden holds many more (15 or 67 sites). The V5.2 Indoor Vegetable Garden systems scale up further again. You'll find current pricing on each product page.

Does it make a good gift?

Yes. It's one of the more affordable systems, has a clean, minimalist look, and a transparent panel so you can watch the roots. There's no experience, soil or daily watering involved, so it's an easy gift for someone curious about growing at home. The current price is shown at the top of this page.
